Carman Ladies "B" interclub team continued the fine play today by winning the event at River Oaks with a team total of 309. They were in a tie with Larters, but the fine people at the MGA realized the skill of our players and we won on a countback. I applaud the MGA for their fair rules in regard to the countback.
The team consisted of Bev Kippen, Pat Makins, Angela Johnston, and Carole Withers. There were 22 teams playing and the girls did us proud with their fine finish.

Aeration reminder
Just a reminder to our members that we will be aerating the greens beginning on Monday afternoon about 2:30 and hopefully completing the job sometime Tuesday.
Men's Interclub team ties for first
The Carman Men's Interclub team consisting of Bruce North, Bill North, Wayne Giesbrecht, and Brett Claggett-Woods tied for first in the Rural division of the Manitoba Men's Interclub Championship. By some bogus countback rule however, they lost to the team from Morden.
It was a great showing for our boys once again, despite the disappointment of finishing second by some two-bit rule.

Carman Teams continue to do well
Carman's Junior interclub team of Kevin Giesbrecht, Josh McFadden, Brendan Hintz, and Michael Hetherington finished second in the rural portion of the Manitoba Junior Interclub Championship held here at Carman.
Meanwhile at Hecla Island, Carman's Pro/Executive/Superintendant team of Mike Gottfred, Elaine Owen, and Rob Hamm won the MPGA Competition held there. They held off a tough field of 23 teams to come home with the hardware. Excellent putting by Rob Hamm and Elaine Owen were the keys to the victory.

Holes in One
We have gone through most of the season without one of our members scoring a hole in one. This week we had two with congratulations to Brett Claggett-Woods for his hole in one on the 6th hole on Monday and to Ross Murray for his hole in one on the 8th hole during Men's Night.
Good things often come in threes, so keep aiming for those pins.

Member's Night this Friday
With the course being busy the last few weeks, we almost forgot about the member's night scheduled for this Friday night. Tee times are available from 4:30 to 6:30 for 9 holes that evening. We will have a fun competition for the golfers and there will be a dinner special after golf.

Lot's of Seniors
It's Senior Open week around the golf course this weekend and there are more seniors around than at a Mexican fiesta. We had 143 ladies play in our Ladies Senior Open on Thursday and are expecting 120 to 130 at our Men's Senior Open on Monday.
Bal Mustapha won the ladies event with a fine 89 on Thursday. She won on a countback over Leslee Hodgins. You can find all the scores if you go to the club tournament link on our website.

Where are they Now? Glen Sirkis
I have been thinking about this one for a while and have finally contacted Glen and caught up with him after all these years.
For those of you who don't remember Glen, he worked for me my first 6 years here at Carman Golf Club from 1994 until 1999. He was a young unskilled naive golf professional when he first started working with me. When he left 6 years later he had become a skilled and seasoned golf professional, yet oddly, he was still quite naive.
"Those were fun years", Glen recalls when I caught up with him recently. "I'm sure there are many great memories I have from those years, but unfortunately I just can't remember them."
With some gentle prodding, I was able to coax a couple of his favorite times back in Carman. "My first year here I was living with Rob Guthrie in the same house and I remember having fun with him and all his friends". Glen also added, "The Fair was also a fun time every year with some action always happening down at the old Ryall Hotel"
The last 2 years he was here, Glen rented the penthouse suite upstairs at the Carman Moter Hotel. "I was the most popular guy in Carman those two years as it seemed there was always a party in my basement every night." Glen also added that "I made a lot of great friends in Carman and would like to take this opportunity to say hello to all of them"
When Glen left Carman, he went to work at Tuxedo Golf Course in Winnipeg so he could be closer to his family and loved ones. He worked there for a few years teaching lots of lessons and making lots of new friends. His latest golf post is at Shooters Golf Course in Winnipeg where he is the Head Professional. He would love to see some of his old friends drop by for a game or just to say hi.
Glen's second career and first love has always been Horse Racing. Glen can usually be found on the third floor at Assiniboia Downs during race season and is always ready to give good advice. One night I almost broke even when I was taking his tips. His hard work has paid off at the Downs, as they now even pay him to dispense his advice. If you want to read about his advice, you can follow the link below and see what he has to say.

Glen also helps out with the Manitoba Moose in the winter as a stats guy for the Manitoba coaches. In fact, he has been voted Manitoba Moose Stats Guy of the Year 7 years in a row. They are thinking of retiring the trophy and letting him put it up on his wall, but Glen is too modest to let them do that. He knows that he must focus 100% every game or some other stats guy might win the award.
With all this on Glen's plate, you might think that he has no time for a love life. Well you would be right. Actually, Glen has devoted quite a bit of time over the years in an attempt to find Miss Right. Although unsuccessful up to now, we know that it isn't for lack of trying.
As Glen and I finished our conversation, he added a one final note " I know I broke many hearts during my years in Carman, but I want all those girls to know that they are much better off by not having me as a boyfriend. Their lives are all better off not having me in them."
