Happy Canada Day!!!

Happy Canada Day to all our golfers. We are expecting a busy day on Monday, so make sure you have your tee time.

June was an extremely busy month at the golf club with records set for the month in both green fees and cart rentals. This was due in large part to the number of tournaments we held at the club. I'd like to thank the members for the patience they showed this month while we hosted the events. July and August will have fewer large tournaments, so your schedules will not be interupted quite as much. These large tournaments go a long way to help keep our dues at a competitive rate.

I don't think I have ever seen the course in as good as shape as it is this year. Despite the rain, Rob and his crew continue to keep the course in tip top condition.

Don't forget to book for our first members Night this Friday. I promise that we will not be playing the worst ball competition. (Even though I think people secretly loved it, despite their protests at the shop.)

Another Sad Note

Another long time member at Carman Golf Club has passed away. Claire Cockerill of Sanford died recently. He wasn't able to golf very much the last couple of years, but was a very proud member of the club. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Elaine and the rest of his family.

Ryan Sayer back in the Shop

Ryan Sayer, who worked in the shop last year, has returned after a year teaching in Kuwait. It sounds like he had a very interesting 10 months over there.

Member's Night

We are havin the first of two Member's Nights on Friday, July 6. Tee off times will be from 4:30 to 6:30. You can sign up as a group and we will have a special game for you to play. Please call the Pro Shop to book your tee time.

After golf, Andre will be having a dinner special in the restaurant.

Open Champions

Karen Funke triumphed at the Carman Ladies Open last Thursday with a fine score of 84. She beat Bal Mustapha and Loise Daymond by one shot and by three shots over Kathy Adams. It was a beautiful day with no threat of rain.

Josh McFadden won the Men's Open after a two hole playoff with the wily veteran Bruce North. Both posted 1 under par 70's on a day that featured a 30 minute downpour halfway through the round. Finishing 1 stroke back were Manitoba Junior champion Kevin Giesbrecht and the always contending Dave Klowak.

The members flight was won by Dale George who shot the game of his life with a fine 72 that translated into a net 60. When I caught up with him after the round, he mentioned that "my Saturday morning group might be looking for a few more strokes." However, he was quick to add "they are dreaming if they think they are going to get them." Randy McGunigal finished 2nd in the member's flight 6 shots back of George.

You can check out all the results in the Club Tournament of the website.

Website Problems

As many of you noticed, and let us know, our website was down for a day and a half. A different site came up that seemed like an advertisement for golf services. What really happened is that the domain registry thought that we hadn't renewed our domain name (www.carmangolfclub.com) and they put up a golf related site in it's place.
The domain name had been renewed 3 weeks ago, but the company we do it through had a mix up and hadn't forwarded the information on. I spoke to that company yesterday and straightened out the problem.

To make a fat story thin, it's working now and it will be good for three years.

Callaway Drivers

Now is a good time to pick up a Callaway Driver if you are looking. They have dropped the wholesale price by $80 on the X460 driver which now sells for $269.95. They are also offering a $50 rebate to anyone who buys a New Big Bertha 460 driver. The price for that driver is $349.95. These are both good clubs and we have them available in Men's and Ladies models and with different shaft flexes.

Tournaments coming up

We have a couple of our club tournaments coming up next week, so make sure you get your name in if you haven't already.

The Ladies Open is this Thursday with an 8:30 shot gun start and the Men's Open Saturday and Sunday with tee times both days. Entry fee for both events is $35.

A Sad Note

On a sad note, I have to report that Eleanor Porter passed away suddenly this weekend. She was a long time member of Carman Golf Club. The Pro Shop and Carman Golf Club would like to pass on our condolences to Eleanor's family and friends.

Eleanor loved to golf and we were happy to see that she was able to play right up to last week.
